These new biometric devices are slowly replacing older, less efficient technology. It has quickly become a tool for helping to solve identity problems. It is being used in law enforcement and in intelligence analyst as a criterion for establishing identity. Biometric devices are also replacing smart cards, magnetic stripe cards, photo ID cards, keys and passwords as they can be lost, forgotten or stolen. In businesses, these devices are also starting to replace punch cards as they are more efficient.
